After Greece, cradle of our civilization, the second country selected for this new edition is Morocco. 8 candidates for a winner chosen by an international jury and an endowment in three strong moments :

The creation and exhibition of a work in the public space on the island of Hydra during the summer 2018

Aone-month residency in Hydra in September 2018

Around table on the young Moroccan scene at Artcurial in Paris in the fall 2018

The association HYam (Hydra for artists of the Mediterranean) was created in 2014 by journalist Pauline Simons to accompany emerging artists from Mediterranean countries. Its objective is to support them in promoting their work on the international scene and to help them gain greater visibility in both France and Greece. After a first edition devoted to the Greek-Cypriot scene, the HYam association invites this time the young Moroccan artistic scene and amplifies its commitment thanks to a personalized accompaniment around three strong moments in Hydra in Greece, then in Paris in autumn. For its second edition, HYam chose to highlight the young Moroccan scene, inviting eight artists of less than 36 years to compete for the HYam Prize of the Young Mediterranean Artistic Scene and to submit a file to an international jury gathered for the occasion.

The winner will receive support for the creation of a work to be exhibited in the public space in the heart of the village during the summer of 2018, before being hosted in residence for a period of one month in a workshop provided by HYam.During his stay, the winning artist will be able to deepen his research in resonance with the specific character of the island, which will be the subject of a presentation in autumn in Paris at Artcurial, partner of the project, during a round table devoted to the Moroccan scene.
After a long process of canvassing, HYam has selected eight emerging Moroccan artists who will each submit to the 2018 jury a dossier presenting their work, a project to be exhibited in Hydra’s public space during the summer of 2018 and a subject for reflection that they then wish to develop during their one-month residency on the spot.

Hydra, island of art of cultureLocated south of Athens facing the Peloponnese, the island of Hydra knits a daily singularity. The black pearl of the Saronic Gulf can only be tamed on foot, by mule or by water taxi. Deliberately cosmopolitan, Hydra is a place of reference for international contemporary art, hosting high-level exhibitions each summer in places as singular as the old slaughterhouse taken over in 2009 by the collector Dakis Ioannou (Deste foundation), a boat garage become the Workshop of Pauline Karpidas, English collector and patron, or the former high school where Dionisis Antonitsis, supported by Dimitri Daskalopoulos (NEON foundation), organizes group exhibitions dedicated to the young international scene.
