#MILAN The Italian auction house Minerva Auctions is offering a sale of photographs at Frigoriferi Milanesi on 4 December at via G.B. Piranesi 10.

This sale is divided into two sessions with a selection of Italian and international authors, contemporary or historical works from the early 20th century.

From Mario Giacomelli (lot 1, estimated at 4,000 – 6,000 €) to the coveted and sultry series “Consumer art” by Natalia LL, whose discovery was appreciated last year in London Photo and which of course makes the cover of the catalogue to attract amateurs (lot 198, estimated at 9,000 -12,000 €) via Gabriele Basilico, the colourist Franco Fontana. It should also be noted that this sale leaves a large place to nude photography. Not surprisingly, we find Jan Saudek, Nobuyoshi Araki, Jean-Loup Sief or the “Fleur du Paradis”, Pierre Molinier’s vintage of the 50s (lot 32, estimated between 2.500 and 3.500€)

The second afternoon session presents 100 contemporary photographs that bring together great names ‘Richard Prince with prints from his series “Cowboys & Girlfriends” (lots 201 and 202, estimated at 4.000 – 6,000 € each), or Helmut Newton’s provocative Evi as a cop (lot 272, estimated between 6,000 and 8,000 €), Robert Mapplethorpe’s diptyke (lots 267 and 268), Andy Warhol, Harry Callahan, Nan Goldin. But it’s “Mexico, 1930s”, a rare print by Manuel Alvarez Bravo (lot 255), a pahre lot of the belly with an estimate of 20.000 – 25.000€.

The sale has been able to integrate into its selection artists who usually boost sales of contemporary art for whom photography serves as a “fixator” for their approach. Thus, Orlan, Nitsch, Christo or Nam June Paik will be in the spotlight and well represented between lot 208 and 2017.

And of course, the sale takes place in Milan, a wide choice of images of great Italian names from Nino Migliori to Luigi Ghirri.

Finally, much awaited after the Italian record set at a sale last May, 3 large format prints by Anton Corbjin “Mel Gibson”, “Beck Hansen” and “Bryan Ferry”, estimated between 6,500 and 9,500 € each, close this very beautiful sale of photographs.
