#PARIS Until February 2019, the Museum of Decorative Arts honours the work of Gio Ponti (1891-1979). This first retrospective in France brings together more than 400 pieces that retrace the multidisciplinary and preponderant career of this designer and architect.

The exhibition presents a chronological presentation of 50 years of career in the fields of architecture, design, interior design and publishing

In the museum’s nave, the common thread of the exhibition, the scenography is rhythmic and offers a lighting in five significant stages: its major commissions, its furniture and lighting, while its architectural projects are detailed in chronological order thanks to period drawings, models, photographs and films

Gio Ponti has spread his style through important international projects, particularly in the 1950s in Venezuela, the United States, the Middle East and even Hong Kong. He is responsible for the creation of two architectural jewels: Villa Planchart in Caracas and the Pirelli Tower in Milan

Ponti’s field of exploration is wide, his productions are rich and original and form a corpus of joyful, colourful and personal works.

The exhibition catalogue, under the direction of Sophie Bouilhet-Dumas, Dominique Forest and Salvatore Licitra, is both a book and the first reference book on Gio Ponti that can be found in French. A very beautiful tributeto the creative universe of this Italian personality who stimulated his contemporaries and who always inspires new generations of designers and architects.
