Dita Von Teese, “guest freak” glamorous Folies Bergère
#PARIS In the middle of Parisian fashion week, what could be more trendy than going to one of the hot pop culture temples, with one of the most famous and eccentric French stylists to immerse yourself in the offbeat universe of Fashion Freak Show?
Let’s go to Les Folies Bergère, to discover the (unruly) show created by Jean-Paul Gaultier and whose leader, in this magical week, is none other than the most glamorous of the strippers Dita Von Teese.
For Fashion Freak Show, Jean-Paul Gaultier has gathered around him a high-flying artistic team, Toni Marshall, Nile Rodgers, Marion Motin.
A clever mix of Music Hall reviews, revisited with JPG’s delicacy: The dancers adorn themselves with the couturier’s mythical pieces (from the marinière immortalized by Pierre et Gilles to Madonna’s iconic corset, which had capsized Jacques Chirac in his time at Parc de Sceaux) or totally new creations, especially designed for the show.
From his provocative beginnings to the sultry London nights, Jean-Paul Gaultier brings to the stage a colourful fauna of rare artists equal to our fantasies and his dreams of fulfilled children: to marry the quilted universe of Haute Couture that he has always been able to shake up with the one, apparently more evanescent, of the glitter of the Music Hall.
It took a generous, cultivated and precise artist like him to succeed in this subtle alchemy, between an ultra rigorous discipline (the frantic rhythm of a review show leaves no room for error) and a glamorous Parisian lifestyle. We needed a man capable of revealing beauty where you don’t expect it, in unexpected encounters, in aesthetics where femininity and masculinity mix.
The one who created the stage costumes for Madonna, “La cité des enfants perdus” and “Kika” is back in force to invest the capital with his Fashion Freak Show that overflows with transgressive energy and offbeat beauty in all its forms.
