Michele Spanghero looking for a synthesis of visual arts and sound
#EMERGENCEI discovered Michele Spanghero’s work at the last edition of the Contemporary Art Fair Artissima in Turin as part of the new section dedicated to the sound welcomed within the OGR – Officine Grandi Riparazioni. The Italian artist born in 1979 is atypical, atypical in his career and also atypical in his research. Michele Spanghero graduated from the University of Trieste with a degree in modern literature, studied electronic and experimental music and has worked in theatre and video.
The Italian artist works tirelessly to reconcile acoustic and visual art. His training allows him to apprehend the visual arts under a singular prism where the space in which his sculptures are installed and where visitors are not neutral or passive. They are actors of the work in the sense of a subtle and minimal interaction. Michele Spanghero reacts to the accumulation of information around us and develops a methodological approach, almost scientific, to understand this formless mass and seek its original essence. With “Tuned Volume”, the artist has built a spherical wooden structure that reproduces, thanks to a device of sensors and loudspeakers, the harmonic frequencies of the space in which this sphere is installed. The sphere, by its mass and presence, contributes itself to modifying these harmonics of the place and each place therefore produces a different interaction.
Michele Spanghero has exhibited and performed in museums, galleries, clubs and festivals around the world. His works are part of public and private collections and his records have been published by several labels such as Headphonica, Palomar Records, Gruenrekorder and Mira Loop. The artist is represented by Alberta Pane Gallery (Paris and Venice).
Michele Spanghero’s work will be presented from February 4 to April 1, 2019 at the Museo del Paesaggio di Torre di Mosto in Venice and at a group exhibition from February 8 to March 9, 2019 at Alberta Pane Gallery in Paris.
