Lafayette Anticipations season 2
One year after its grand opening which invited the artistic and fashionable elite of the capital, three exhibitions later and events around dance and music, the Galeries Lafayette Foundation, Lafayette Anticipations, unveils its new programme.
First of all, as a first highlight for this new season, the exhibitions are now free of charge in order to facilitate their discovery. Mediation is strengthened and, in parallel with its exhibition programme, Lafayette Anticipations offers events and workshops throughout the year.
Season 2 therefore opens with Atelier E.B and Camille Blatrix, 2 exhibitions opened since February 21 and which extend until April 28, 201. From June to September Hella Jongerius, one of the most important figures in international design, will take over the premises, which for the occasion will be transformed into a huge fabric factory. A dance break with Echelle humaine – Dance festival in echo with the Paris Autumn Festival. For the last quarter of the 2019 season, Katinka Bock, famous for her sculptures, has created a new and spectacular installation that occupies the entire exhibition tower.
Workshop E.B – Passer-by
What is Atelier E.B.? It is a fashion label created by designer Beca Lipscombe and artist Lucy McKenzie. This duo questions these strange places, which are at the same time places of sale, exhibition, communication and creation, such as fashion boutiques and department stores.
For this exhibition, they recreated and declined all the essential representations of these places-symbols of consumerism, starting with the shop window, the monumental staircase essential to any good “department strore”, interior windows in which are displayed under glass the most precious products, the artistic staging in the service of merchandising…
With skill, Atelier E.B invited various artists to participate in this project
Bringing together the works of a dozen creators, Passer-by stages the duo’s own rigorous creations and offers a stroll through different periods, stories and silhouettes, visitors become passers-by in a hybrid and dreamlike landscape. Between shop, department store, history museum or art or design gallery.
Camille Blatrix – Fortune
Camille Blatrix’s sculptures are presented as artifacts from the near future, inspired by everyday objects. By shaking up their uses, the 2014 winner of the Ricard Foundation Prize is turning them into a disturbing dreamlike world. His intimate, funny and enigmatic sculptures are all invitations to enter into open stories.
For this exhibition, it was the top floor under the glass roof that was proposed to him. At the centre of this extraordinary interior, an equivocal sculpture with the appearance of high-tech kitchen islands, presents in succession the fundamental elements of life (water, fire, air…) as many stations of a rite of passage. An initiatory gateway to all futures.
