#NEW YORK Christie’s house will sell on October 29th the legendary 1959 Hasselblad 500C by Douglas Kirkland. Photographer of All Hollywood, he wrote his name in marble when, in 1961, he made a series of ethereal and sensual portraits of a radiant Marilyn. This is not the star’s last photo shoot, but her last professional shoot and the series becomes iconic: Marilyn, at the height of her career, poses naked, wrapped in white silk sheets, in a “sfumato” that gives the image corpus an ultra glamorous dimension

Thus Douglas Kirkland, at 85 years old, separates himself from this fantastic camera which will have accompanied him throughout his career and joined to this treasure two original prints resulting from this particular shooting session, one morning in November. The 1959 Hasselblad 500C propelled the Swedish brand into the big league with this model and Kirkland was one of the first to adopt it. At 27 years of age, he had joined Look Magazine’s editorial staff eighteen months earlier and was embarking on a long and successful career as a photojournalist.
