#PARIS The first Festival of Lights is currently being held at Jardin des Plantes Until January 15, it is a magical journey in the animals world that awaits kids and parents to discover this event under the evocative name: “Especes en voie d’illumination” (“Species in Enlightenment”) .

From 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., everyone strolls along a night itinerary, in the light of the animals that illuminate the family walk. During the Christmas season, it is an ideal time to enjoy this wonderful world. The animals, some of which are sometimes more than 45 feet high, are made of painted fabric that allows the flamboyant colours of the dresses to shine through, illuminated from the inside by hundreds of small indoor bulbs that make the winter twilight shine. All the lighting structures are designed by a Chinese company specialising in the design and organisation of Chinese lantern festivals in Europe.

We start this wonderful journey with a return to the Jurassic period, the dinosaurs, which delights both young and old! Then the polar bears attract you to the heart of the Jardin des Plantes. Here and there, signs are displayed to inform on the risks of extinction that threaten some of these species. The objective is not only to amaze but also to raise awareness from an early age in a playful way. The walk in this world of nature and animals continues and the calls multiply “Mom! they move” exclaims a little girl just behind me. The parents are delighted, the children conquered!

Then comes the sparkling and moving tree of life just before going through the “shark tunnel” which changes colour. Everyone is riveted to their smartphone to capture the moment and the happy faces. All are carried away by the charm of the night journey amidst the illuminations

At this late hour, you will not see or see much of the animals in the menagerie but you will still be able to smell their presence and especially hear the song of the “Mouse Parakeets”. This moment is magical but does not fool children. Even amazed by the illuminated animals, they only want to come back to see the real ones the next day… The parents will be good for a second visit, just as charming and authentic to live the life of a little Parisian!
